Listening for the Inner Thaw

Have you found your voice? The voice that has been forgotten? A voice that has been neglected or made wrong?  When clients find their authentic expression, it brings forth a wholeness of self. A self that can withstand the turbulence of reality. A self that can stand in steadfast compassion and hold boundaries with grace. A self that feels safe to give as well as to receive.

Often traditional talk therapy will focus on labelling or psychoanalyzing problems in order to fix, repair, to improve upon. The goal of lessening suffering is a worthy one, but some approaches can often leave out an essential ingredient—radical self-acceptance. The paradox of self-acceptance is what allows the foundation for change. When we are no longer made wrong, bad or faulty, there is some space for grace to move differently.

The beginning of spring is a potent time when blooms stir within, allowing the thaw to shed them into their authenticity. I think about somatic experiencing and dance/therapy practices that facilitate awakening in our authenticity.

In Authentic Movement, a mover closes their eyes and listens deeply. They only move in response to their inner experience, while a witness (the person observing) holds a space of presence and non-judgmental witnessing. The mover can follow their internal impulses, exploring and expressing their authentic movement and inner experience. The witness supports the mover by offering a safe and supportive space without interruption or interpretation. This holding of relationship requires trust and safety of the container, which is the therapeutic experience.

I invite you today to find the parts that are starting to thaw, the part of you that is ready to express your authenticity.'

Can you listen to your breath and notice what the body says? Maybe it comes to you as an image, a thought, an emotion. Or maybe holding the silence facilitates the tiniest sprout to be felt ? Maybe its starts with a twitch, a temperature change, an impulse or a small shift in posture.  What would it be like to listen for a bit? To follow that impulse?

What would it be like not to interpret, explain, or have your story rehearsed...but to just let your authentic, somatic expression be known? How can you hold witness to this?

...Blessings for this journey into your thaw
